Monza reappoint Alessandro Nesta as head coach

Monza has reappointed legendary Italian center-back Alessandro Nesta as manager, just seven weeks after dismissing him and appointing Salvatore Bocchetti in his place.

On Monday, February 10, Bocchetti was sacked following a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Lazio, which left Monza at the bottom of the Serie A table, eight points from safety. The former Hellas Verona coach struggled during his brief tenure, overseeing seven league matches, winning just one and losing six.

He also failed to lead Monza past the Coppa Italia round of 16, suffering a 4-0 defeat to Bologna at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

With only 13 points from 24 matches, Monza is in a desperate battle for survival. Nesta, making his second return to the club, will take charge of his first game against Lecce on Sunday, February 16, at Stadio Brianteo.

Monza’s season has been plagued by poor performances, securing just two wins in Serie A. With only three months of football remaining, they require a major turnaround to avoid relegation.

The club is banking on Nesta’s leadership to turn things around and Nesta’s return is a last-ditch effort to salvage their season and secure Serie A survival.
