Residents of the Tamale Metropolis continue to live in fear following the brazen activities of armed robbers who snatch vehicles at gunpoint.
The target of the car-snatching syndicate that has gained notoriety in the ancient city include; Toyota Landcruiser V8s, Toyota Landcruiser Prados, Toyota Hilux Double Cabin Pickups, Nissan Hardbody Double Cabin Pickup vehicles among other robust cross-country vehicles.
Several residents have since 2019, fallen victim to the activities of the suspected criminals who are stopping at nothing to attack residents and take their vehicles.
Just when officials of the Ghana Police Service had given assurances that the activities of the criminals gangs have been nib in the bud, a car belonging to a top public servant was snatched on Monday night.
The official vehicle of the Savannah Regional Director of Fisheries Commission has been snatched at gunpoint in Tamale.
The incident occurred on Monday night in front of his house at Bi-water, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region.
This is the umpteenth time such incidents have been recorded within the Tamale Metropolis.
He had just arrived at his home when the robbers numbering two pointed guns at him at and took the Toyota Hilux double cabin Pickup with registration number GV 301-22 and sped off.
It would be recalled that in July 2019, a Toyota Hilux pickup used by the then Savannah Regional Minister, Salifu Adam Braimah was snatched at gunpoint in a similar fashion.
The Minister was travelling to Accra by flight for a meeting and parked the vehicle with registration number ER 3516-19 at one Iliasu’s house when at about 9:00 pm two armed men wielding AK-47 riffles came to the house and took the vehicle away.
A Landcruiser Prado was also on Friday, April 29, 2022, snatched at gunpoint from its owner at Tamale in the Northern Region.
The victim John Kwose Emmanuel affectionately called Captain among his peers, disclosed to the media that the incident occurred at Jisonayili a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis when two gunmen attacked and snatched the vehicle from him.
“It was around 11:30 pm when I went to a nearby drinking spot close to Jiso Plaza to grab something for myself. The bar attendant was almost closing but just when I got on the vehicle, the two criminals who may have been monitoring my movements pointed a gun at me and took the vehicle”, he revealed.
According to him, his saviour was a tracker he had installed on the vehicle and the fact there was not enough fuel in the car that did not save the criminals from speeding off towards the Bolga direction.
Monday’s incident brings to 10 the number of vehicles snatched within Tamale alone including the Toyota Landcruiser vehicle of the National First Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Sofo Awudu Azorka.
