MP Pleads with Ahafo People to Bury Political Differences
Mr Evans Opoku Bobie, the Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister has pleaded with the people of Ahafo to bury their differences in the quest for the proposed creation of the Ahafo Region.
For the purpose of development, the Deputy Regional Minister implored the people to consider generations yet unborn and shun tendencies that could thwart efforts towards the creation of the Ahafo Region.
Mr Bobie who is the Member of Parliament for Asunafo North Constituency however, praised the Traditional Authorities in the area for their zeal to make the carving out of Ahafo region a reality.
He was speaking at a public hearing on the creation of the new Ahafo Region at Goaso on Wednesday.
The Justice Stephen Allan Brobbey’s Commission of Inquiry looking into the proposed creation of the six additional regions in the country is in Ahafo, organising the public hearings to that effect.
It just ended similar hearings on the creation of the Bono East Region in the Eastern part of Brong-Ahafo.
From Goaso the Commission is expected to meet and interact with the people at Sankore, Hwidiem and Bechem.
The Council of Ahafo Chiefs spearheading the creation of the Ahafo Region earlier sent a petition to the Commission to justify the demand for the new region.
But, Mr Bobie knelt down in front of the hundreds of people and pleaded with them to forge ahead in unity, saying until they eschewed partisan politics, efforts being made for the creation of the new region would be unsuccessful.
He observed that any form of disunity among the people could easily influence and reduce the constitutionally stipulated percentages in the referendum.
Justice Brobbey, the Chairman of the Commission reminded the people that its work was devoid of partisan politics and considerations and therefore advised them to shun partisan politics and justify their demands for the new region.
This, Justice Brobbey who is a retired Supreme Court Judge said it would enable the Commission to get the true picture, capture their needs and make good recommendations to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Nana Kwasi Bosomprah I, the Paramount Chief of Goaso Traditional Area expressed regrets that the Ahafo area had been denied development for a long time.
