MPs Beg for Cash for Kejetia Interchange
THE PARLIAMENTARY Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development has urged government to complete the Kejetia Interchange project as soon as practicable.
The community is of the view that, considering the economic viability of the project, there is the strong need for government to help complete all the three phases of the facility.
It further opined that any amount of money that would be pumped into the project would be recouped once the facility begins operation.
This was made known on Saturday by Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, chairman of the committee, in an interview by journalists when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development inspected the level of work done so far at Kejetia.
Hon. Nyarko, who is the MP for Akyem Swedru Constituency, expressed delight about the beauty of the project, adding that it would change the face of Kumasi, when completed.
Ranking Member of the committee, Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye, said the project would help restore the Garden City status of Kumasi and stressed the need for all the three phases to be completed.
“If we don’t do the two remaining phases then we have done nothing”, the Odododiodoo MP noted.
For his part, Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, urged the committee to support in the demolishing of unapproved buildings that are scattered around the project area.
According to him, owners of such facilities need to be compensated, and is therefore counting on the authorities concerned to intervene on time.
