The leading Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) in Ghana has made an interest payment of GHc98.9 Million to its Mobile Money (MoMo) subscribers from January 2016 to December 2017.
In 2017 alone the Network paid GHc71 million to its MoMo subscribers while an average monthly commission of GHc19.6 million was paid to agents.
Ebenezer Twum Asante, Vice President of the South-East Africa and Ghana (SEAGHA) Region of the MTN Group mad this known at the 2018 edition of MTN Stakeholder and Media Forum held yesterday in Accra under the theme “Providing a Connected Lifestyle with BRIGHT Digital Services”.
He said the Network has partnered with 16 Banks to offer money service in Ghana, stating “Our model is to partner with the banks, but not to replace them”.
Currently he said MTN has about 8.3 million active wallets (90 Days) and 90,000 active Agent points (30 Days).
Mr. Twum Asante said MTN was working hard in Mitigating fraud and enforcing security in the MoMo sector.
Mr. Twum Asante said the Network in 2017 made a total payments of GHc1.218 billion to government of Ghana.
He said GHc1.059 billion was paid to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and GHc159.4 Million was paid to NCA/GIFEC.
Focus for 2018
Touching on the Network’s focus for 2018, he said the company will optimise high-volume customer journey, extend focus beyond value & network drivers and roll out smart capex.
Mr. Twum Asante said MTN will scale up MoMo and rich-media subscriptions, deepen partnerships and expand Network and data coverage.
