The newest presenter to join the Media General family as the host of ‘Biribi Gyegye Wo’ show on Onua TV has admonished media practitioners to avoid hatred in the practice of their professional duty to further help grow the media front in the country to a higher scale.
Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz recently, Mona Gucci said hatred among other unnecessary practice is slowing the work of the media as the fourth most powerful entity in the country down.
“The level of hatred in the industry is something else, it is just too much. There are so many talented people out there who need one or two opportunities to show the world what they are made of but they are not getting it because people who are there already have refused to train or mentor them so that we all grow.
“The same people want to remain at the top forever and once you push your way through and you also get there, then they come at you in all ways, doing their best and everything to bring you down.
“For me, I want to say anyone who has done that or is planning to has a lot of work to do because it will not get to me. What I am saying is not based on hearsay, it is what I have witnessed and experienced since I became active in the television hosting space”.
She added, “We need unity, we need to be one. Let us not go far looking for examples, just take a look at Nigeria and the new crop of comedians they have, you will see celebrities such as Toke Makinwa, Don Jazzy, Davido, Mercy Johnson etc. playing roles in their skits but in our country Ghana, the story is totally different, it is just sad.
“When I left Katanka TV, it was with the intention of going back to school because like I say always, I wasn’t in Ghana to stay, it was for holidays but I know the CEO of Katanka so I was like ‘why not do something for the mean time.
“I didn’t leave on a bad note, but after this decision, I got a lot of offers and going through, I picked TV3 because everyone wants to be part of a brand that will build their career. I will also need money to pay my school fees I, therefore, chose the one that will make that possible. It’s really good feeling to be a part of the team”.
