Museveni Teases Otumfuo Over Age
DIGNITARIES INCLUDING top politicians and monarchs from the African continent, that gathered at the Presidential Palace at Kampala, in Uganda, were enveloped in a state of free-for-all laughter as the country’s President shared a joke with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was a special guest at the plush-looking presidential palace.
It all started when President Yoweri Museveni asked the Asantehene, who was In Uganda on a five-day visit, following an invitation by the Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom, about his age.
The Asantehene, who was dressed in an adoring ‘Kente’ cloth with gold ornaments to match, responded to the question by saying that he was 68 years-old, having been born in Ghana in 1950.
Then on, President Museveni, age 73, and clearly older than the Asantehene by some five years, stated that “Then you are a young man”. The President’s comment sparked spontaneous laughter at the presidential palace.
The Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom, Roland Muwenda Mutebi II, upon whose invitation Otumfuo was in Uganda, who was present at the presidential palace, also joined in the laughter.
Interestingly, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his entourage, including the Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Serebuo, who is also the Council of State Chairman, all joined in the free-for-all laughter.
Earlier on, Otumfuo had called for proper collaboration between African countries to help the continent to defeat its enemy, which includes poverty, diseases and ignorance, among others.
The Asantehene stated emphatically that Africa can take its rightful position and rub shoulders with the affluent countries in the world, if the continent begins to educate its youth, who are the future leaders.
Otumfuo, who had since returned to Ghana, was in Uganda as the special guest of honour during a mammoth traditional gathering to mark the 25th anniversary of the coronation of the Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom.
