Multiple-award winning Ghanaian musician, Edem, on Tuesday evening published via social media, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign flyer that had his photograph and official name as well as the party’s emblem, party colours and other details, in what looks like an announcement for a partisan political journey.
Checks from persons close to the well-mannered and celebrated musician say he is lacing boots to contest the 2024 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the NDC and additionally, he has concluded discussions with the party to play a key role in marketing the party at the national level ahead of the next general elections.
Edem released the attention-grabbing campaign flyer on all his social media platforms in a style which created more suspense than clarity.
The caption Edem wrote to accompany the flyer was that he would give a “Big Announcement” the next day at 4 PM. That actually falls today and fingers are crossed in anticipation of the details of whatever “Big Announcement” the musician promised.
On the flyer itself, he wrote, “Denning Edem Hotor aka Edem Goget’em. Big Announcement coming soon. Fully Active.”
Over the years, Edem has proved beyond doubts he is a serious-minded professional musician who has gone the extra mile to market the name of Ghana across the globe despite the sorry-state and unresolved challenges battling the country’s music industry.
Edem is celebrated across Ghana and beyond. He however commands a cult following in his home region, which is Volta and incidentally that is the ‘World Bank’ of votes for the NDC.
Therefore, is Edem truly, would be contesting on the party’s ticket and he decides to take his chances in the Volta Region, his main challenge would be to win the party’s internal primaries to allow him contest as the NDC candidate- the rest would be a walk in the park, most likely.
There is no official indication which of the Volta Region seats he would be contesting but the fact that he is a son of Dzogadze, a small town in Abor gives an indication he may go for the Ketu South Constituency.
Edem, by all standards, is an attractive political commodity and a great communicator. He has demonstrated his commitment to social development, employment creation and selfless acts of charity.
If Edem’s “Big Announcement” this afternoon confirms he is lacing boots to enter parliament on the NDC’s ticket, it would mean he has joined the growing list of celebrities who have recently declared interest to represent the NDC at the next polls.
Sadiq Abdulai Abu popularly known as Baba Sadiq, the famous Music and Media Entrepreneur, has officially launched his bid to contest the Okaikoi Central Constituency seat on the ticket of the NDC.
