Muslim Communities Improving― FOMWAG

A member of the UK Branch of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Ghana (FOMWAG), Hajia Belqis Rahman has applauded Muslims in Ghana for making frantic efforts to uplift the image of the Zongo communities in the country.

According to her, the Zongo communities have in the past had sour reputations but says, the trend is changing.

“Today, our people are going to schools and our girls are no longer limited to the kitchen,” she said.

Hajia Belquis made this remark when she paid a courtesy call to the Madarasatul Atarwaah Muslim School at Lomnava-Roman Hill, in Accra last weekend.

She therefore called on parents to give cooperate institutions the opportunity to help children especially girls living in the Zongo communities.

“We are here to help, we want to help, these communities just need a push and the will be doing beautiful things,” she noted.

She however bemoaned government’s inability to bring to fusion its promises to deprived communities.

Hajia Belquis said, “The government says it going to help them but we haven’t seen anything and we hope within some few years we would see some progress.”

Donation

To prove that FOMWAG-UK was ready to help the needy in the least possible way, they donated learning materials to the Madarasatul Atarwaah Muslim School.

The items presented include three big white boards, markers, boxes of pens, pencils and exercise books.

In presenting the items, Hajia Belqis Rahman said it is FOMWAG-UK’s desire that every Muslim child of school going age, especially those in the Zongo communities, gets formal education.

FOMWAG-UK believes children should not only have access to quality education but that schools be equipped with learning aids at all times, to accelerate their prospects of meeting global standards.

Receiving the items, Mallam Zakaria thanked FOMWAG-UK for their esteemed assistance.

“We will ensure these items will be put to good use to achieve the purpose for which it was presented”, he said.
