Samira Bawumia, wife of the Vice President yesterday broke the long silence over the latest development on the health status of her husband.
According to her, her husband- Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is doing “very well” and will soon return to work.
The disclosure brings to an end days of silence coupled with its attendant wild speculations particularly on social media over how the Veep is fairing in the United Kingdom (UK).
Dr. Bawumia was advised by his doctors according to government sources to take a short leave after he fell ill few days.
“He was attended to by his doctors and is currently undergoing medical tests and observation. Any further information will be duly communicated,” a statement released by the Director of Communications for the president Eugene Arhin had said.
He was subsequently rumoured to have been flown to London where he was said to be receiving treatment at the Guys Hospital in Central London.
The development has triggered a huge controversy amongst the two main political parties.
While members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called for full disclosure of the health details of Dr. Bawumia, the government spokespersons think otherwise.
Information Minister Mustapha Hamid has said it is unethical to give the details of the health status of Dr. Bawumia.
But in a Facebook post yesterday, probably to douse the raging controversy surrounding the health of her husband, Samira thanked Ghanaians and well-wishers for their prayers and support for the Vice President.
She said her husband is on the road to recovery and will return to work very soon.
“My husband and I are grateful to all Ghanaians and well-wishers from across the world for your prayers, support, and best wishes.”
“He is doing very well and we thank Allah for His grace. He looks forward to returning to work soon,” Samira said in the Facebook post.
