The National Coordinator of the Nation’s Builders Corps [NABCO], Ibrahim Anyass, has debunked assertions that the program is a duplication of other youth employment schemes like the Youth Employment Agency [YEA].
According to him, NABCO is a product of the visionary leadership by President Nana Akufo-Addo to curtail the high rate of graduate unemployment in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Citi FM, Dr Ibrahim Anyass described that the essence of NABCO is to create employment opportunities for a specific group of people to tackle specific challenges in the public sector.
“The NABCO is different from anything that we have had in existence in this country. It does not matter how you try to spin this, it is a youth employment agency that is targeted at a certain age cult without a qualification point…
The whole essence of NABCO is that you make provisions for everyone with the qualification point of the age whenever they exit the tertiary campuses.”
“This country has got specific challenges in our public service center. It is only a visionary leadership that can make provision for the future leadership and jobs that Ghana is going to have in the next 5 to 10 years and to prepare its current workforce to be ready to explore such opportunities.”
Nana Addo launches Nation Builders Corps, pledges more jobs for youth
President Akufo Addo has said government is exploring other alternatives to create jobs for the country’s youth.
Launching the Nation Builder’s Corps (NABCO) which will employ one hundred thousand graduates in Kumasi on Tuesday, October 17,2018 the President said his administration is also committed to finding jobs for the country’s unemployed youth.
The President indicated that government’s goal of job creation for the youth will be accelerated through the implementation of government’s flagship programmes such as Planting for Food and Jobs, among others.
The President further expressed concerns about what he called the “grim story of youth unemployment”, saying it had been a “tragic part of our lives for far too long in Ghana.”
TUC declares support for Nation Builders Corps
The Trades Union Congress (TUC), has pledged its support for government’s soon-to-be-launched Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) programme.
The Congress said it has learnt from the failures of previous job creation programs, and so it intends to back this initiative to ensure it succeeds fully.
“We’ve learnt from our mistakes. We’ve learned from GYEEDA and the rest, and this time, every hand will be on deck. We at TUC and other organized labour intend to support and make sure it is successful.” – he said in an interview with Citi News.
According to him, the program will significantly help to reduce the country’s unemployment rate.
