Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyire, Ashanti Regional National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Coordinator, has warned the public against using mobile phone and other electronic gadgets when it is raining.
According to him, thunder and lightning can cause serious health hazards to people who use electronic gadgets during raining periods, and advised that people refrain from such practice for their own safety.
“When you use mobile phones when it is raining, the probability of thunder striking you and causing injuries or death to you is very high.
“And this is why NADMO is advising residents of the region to always switch off their cell phones when it is raining to avert any havoc”.
He again admonished the public to always stay indoors when it is raining, saying string winds that accompany the rains can also cause disaster.
Mr. Nsenkyire further disclosed that perennial floods that are usually recorded in the regional capital during the raining season are self-inflicted because people have decided to build houses in waterways.
