Nana Aba and Prince Tagoe Are Riding on My Name for Fame – Asamoah Gyan
Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, says his former national teammate Prince Tagoe and broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah are riding on his popularity to become famous.
Gyan was reacting to the views of the pair about his tenure as Black Stars captain.
The GH One TV hostess, Nana Aba reportedly said Gyan should be replaced as Black Stars captain by West Ham United forward Andre Ayew while Tagoe in a recent interview indicated Gyan becoming captain of the Black Stars after Stephen Appiah’s retirement was a mistake considering the fact that there were other senior players like Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari who were well positioned to take the place of Appiah in the squad.
Tagoe said: “If we should be honest to ourselves as Ghanaians, we would realise there was a mistake somewhere because if Stephen [Appiah] was not around and [Michael] Essien had not retired, who should have been captain?
“Even if Essien had retired, [Sulley] Muntari was also a senior player and could have become captain of the team.”
“Hahahaha..hhahahah..all I can say is that everybody gets his or her opinion; even if a president is elected someone will say he doesn’t deserve to be the President…others will also say he deserved it… Prince Tagoe is also saying his mind but I was expecting him to say it when he was in camp with us”, Gyan said in an interview on Hot FM last Monday.
He continued,”When people want to become famous, they often try to use my name… The captain was given to me six years ago so why now? These people are only tarnishing my image because they know they can get the fame they craving for… I worked really hard to earn the fame am enjoying… Prince Tagoe and Nana Aba Anamoah are only using my name for fame”.
The former Sunderland and Al Ain goal-getter who currently turns out for Turkish side Kayserispor advised Prince Tagoe and Nana Aba Anamoah to channel any grievances about his captaincy to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Gyan is currently Ghana’s all-time scorer – the 32-year-old has scored 51 goals in 105 appearances.
