Nana Addo Did Not Stop Bediako …F.F. Anto Speaks
PRESIDENT NANA Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not convince Asare Bediako to opt out of the Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship race, a top member of the party has stated.
Frederick Fredua Anto, NPP National First Vice Chairman, who made the statement, has warned those peddling that “falsehood” to quickly refrain from throwing dust into the eyes of the public.
Bediako Resigns
Mr. Asare Bediako, who was a top contender for the Ashanti Regional NPP chairmanship position, on Wednesday shocked his teeming followers in the party as he resigned from the contest.
The former Asokwa Constituency chairman of the NPP did not state why he was quitting the race, only saying that he would continue to faithfully serve the party as he had done for over two decades now.
His unexpected resignation came barely two weeks before the party goes to the polls to elect the next batch of executives to steer the affairs of the ruling political party in the region for four years.
Since his resignation, some party members in the Ashanti region, mostly his dyed-in-the-wool supporters, have accused President Akufo-Addo for putting pressure on him to bow out of the race.
Anto Clears Air
Commenting on the dicey issue, Mr. Anto stated that President Akufo-Addo has no personal interest in the internal party politics therefore it is untrue that he (Nana Addo) pressured Asare Bediako to resign.
He said the party is yet to receive Asare Bediako’s official resignation letter, saying “If he tenders in the resignation letter then it will mean Wontumi will go for the chairmanship through popular acclamation.
