PRESIDENT NANA Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has gives a firm assurance that the Fomena District Hospital project will be completed on time to boost healthcare delivery.
He gave the assurance when he toured the 120-bed facility project, which is currently about 80 percent complete, to personally assess the level of work done.
Barring any unforeseen last minute hitch, the modern hospital project, which would boast of several amenities, would be completed latest by March next year.
Workers of the contraction company in charge of the project, NMS Infrastructure Limited, were seen on the ground working to complete the project ahead of schedule when the President made the visit.
Fomena Hospital
The Fomena District Hospital is part of a government project to construct six hospitals in different districts in the country, including Kumawu, to bring healthcare closer to the people.
The construction works commenced during the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) regime but it got stalled six months before the NDC led government exited political office in 2016.
Upon assumption of office in 2017, the NPP led government realized that lack of funds led to the project being abandoned to rot therefore the new government under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo decided to intervene.
The NPP administration therefore engaged Crown Agents to do a value for money audit to figure out what might have forced the contractors to leave the site in 2016.
Health Minister
Kwaku Agyeman Manu, the Health Minister, who was with the president on the tour, said President Akufo-Addo wants the Fomena Hospital to be completed as planned.
According to him, all the financial barriers that led to the project being abandoned during the past government’s era had been successfully rectified by the current government.
Agyeman Manu said “Letters have been sent to the UK Export Fund to give access to funding for the project to be completed and improve healthcare delivery for the people”.
The Health Minister said President Akufo-Addo has placed priority on the the project so he was eager to ensure the hospital’s swift completion to boost healthcare delivery.
He said an amount of 40 million Euros was needed to complete the six hospital projects including Fomena Hospital, announcing that the Fomena project would be completed latest by March 2020.
The Contractor
The NMS Infrastructure Chairman, Frederik Hsu, said the project would be completed in four months time, adding that quality services would be delivered by his outfit.
He said the facility upon completion, would boasts of a 16-bed paediatric unit, a 14-bed male ward, a 14-bed female ward, recovery wards and other important amenities.
Frederik Hsu announced that the hospital would provide 400 jobs for the people when it becomes operational, reiterating that the facility would be delivered on time.
