Nana Extols Napo to Otumfuo
DR MATTHEW Opoku Prempeh, aka ‘Napo’, the Minister of Education, stole the show during a colourful Akwasidae festival at the Manhyia Place in Kumasi, on Sunday.
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, used the historic occasion to praise Napo for his unique contribution towards the successful implementation of the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
According to the president, some political opponents of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government were skeptical about the introduction of the party’s flagship social intervention programme, but by dint of hard work and the extraordinary leadership skills of the minister, it had seen the light of day.
“Otumfuo, your own grandson, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is from this palace, has worked assiduously to implement the free SHS programme despite constant criticisms by our political opponents.
“Another grandson of the Asanteman, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, the Bosomtwe MP, has rallied behind Napo and their unique collaboration and understanding has led to the policy being implemented successfully”, he said.
President Akufo-Addo, who was addressing the attendants of the Akwasidae festival, said the Asantehene also deserved praise over the policy “because his grandsons worked to introduce it”.
He said the double-track system, which is about to be introduced, is appropriate; stressing that it had worked in other countries and would work in Ghana too.
