IT WAS all laughter at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, when President Akufo-Addo announced that some people in his own political party are eager to succeed him as president.
The President, who is just nine months into his second term, told the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, that two prominent people people in his administration were eyeing his presidential throne.
Being frank, President Nana Akufo-Addo stated that Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, Minister of Trade and Industry and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the Agric Minister, were the two personalities.
Interestingly, the jovial manner at which the President made the report in the presence of the Asantehene and other chiefs in Kumasi on Friday, quickly sparked uncontrollable laughter.
President Akufo-Addo said “Otumfuo let me introduce my delegation to you. This is Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the Agric Minister, and I have been told that he has an ambition to become president”.
Even before the president could complete his statement, all the people present at the palace, including the Asantehene and Nana Akufo-Addo were thrown into a spontaneous laugher.
Then the president also announced that “Otumfuo, Alan Kyeremanteng, the Minister of Trade and Industry, who is part of my delegation, has also been nursing presidential ambition for a long time”.
Again, all the people present were thrown into spontaneous laughter, following the president’s seeming hilarious comments about Alan Kyeremanteng’s presidential ambition.
The president is expected to complete his four days working tour in the Ashanti Region today (Monday). During his short stay, he toured government project sites that are still under construction.
