Napo denies retirement from parliament

Calm and normalcy have been restored in the Manhyia South Constituency of the Ashanti Region after the Member of Parliament (MP) there, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh alias ‘Napo’ personally stepped in to deny reports that he was retiring from Parliament.

Tension was exceeding boiling points after reports of a supposed resignation or retirement by Napo went viral across the constituency and some were at the verge of breaking into riots and protests just when Napo himself disassociated himself from the reports and described them as false.

The false report which generated the disturbances were said to have been first put out by Kwabena Nsenkyire, the Ashanti Regional First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who reportedly announced Napo’s supposed retirement from Parliament after 2024.

The New Publisher spoke on phone with Napo over the development: “I have never met nor discussed my political future, especially my Parliamentary aspirations with Nsenkyire or anybody, so his comments should be treated with the greatest contempt that it deserves,” he stated

The Manhyia South MP who doubles as Minister for Energy said any such report should be dismissed and he called for calm among the agitated constituents.

It is not exactly clear why Kwabena Nsenkyire. He has never been known as a Spokesperson for Napo and the subject matter during a radio discussion on Ash FM where he made the statement, was not even about Napo.

Even though he could not produce any written or voice evidence to buttress his claim, Nsenkyire, who was reportedly speaking on Ashh FM in Kumasi, stated that Napo would not seek re-election as MP again.

Confusion And Anger

The New Publisher has gathered that there was confusion and extreme anger among NPP members, especially in the Manhyia South Constituency in Kumasi, few minutes after Nsenkyire’s statement.

Residents of Manhyia South, the paper learnt, were very peeved and alarmed because they thought if Nsenkyire’s statement was true then Napo, who has brought massive development to the area, had disappointed them

Napo’s MP Records As MP

Following his works and development-oriented nature, Napo has become the toast of residents of Manhyia South as he has over the years worked tirelessly to bring massive transformation to the constituency.

Through Napo’s leadership and positive direction, roads in the constituency have been constructed, brilliant but needy students given scholarships, provision of potable drinking water, education and health infrastructure have also improved.

Napo, who has become synonymous with developmental projects, is also about to commission a one-storey state-of-the-art library project at Ash Town and a newly-constructed FIFA certified astro turf park at the Konadu Yiadom School.
