DR. MATHEW Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, has successfully retained his seat as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South Constituency.
By the close of the picking and filing of nomination forms for the NPP upcoming parliamentary elections at Manhyia South Constituency on Thursday, February 20, Napo was the only candidate.
Historically, Manhyia has been one of the safest seats for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and all one need to represent the constituency in Parliament, is to win the party’s primaries.
Napo, sailing through the primaries as an unopposed candidate is certainly on his way to retain his seat.
Haruna Alhassah, the NPP Constituency Secretary for Manhyia South, confirmed to The New Publisher that “Napo was the only party member that picked forms and also submitted it.
“This means that he will be declared as the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency through acclamation, to be held in late April, this year, and I wish him good luck”.
Napo is the Minister of Education and he is responsible for the introduction of the famous free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which is regarded as the best social intervention policy in Ghana’s history.
Dr. Prempeh, an old boy of Prempeh College, is a medical doctor by profession. He has successfully occupied the Manhyia South parliamentary seat for three consecutive terms, starting from 2009.
Under his leadership, the Manhyia South Constituency, which is the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s constituency, had witnessed massive transformation, virtually in all areas.
Through Napo’s effective leadership style, roads, education, water, health and all other areas in the constituency, have witnessed massive transformation. It is therefore not a surprise that nobody in his party is contesting him.
