THE MINISTER of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’ has urged the citizenry to jealously protect the unity and peace that is flourishing in the country now.
Without mincing words, he stated emphatically that unity and peace is very crucial if the country would realize its developmental aspirations within a short possible time.
In this regard, Napo, who is also the MP for Manhyia South Constituency, has urged the citizenry to do away with all acts that would divide them and stay united at all times.
“Without unity, there will be no peace. Without peace, there will be no progress”, he pointed out when he joined Akwamuman to mark ‘Kitawonsa Akwasidae Kese’ festival.
Held at the Bogyawe Palace in Akwamufie, in the Eastern Region last Sunday, the rich and colourful traditional ceremony was graced by chiefs and other dignitaries.
Napo, who was the Guest of Honour for the event, stressed that Ghanaians were one people with a common destiny so they should always remain united.
According to him, all forms of tribal acts, which only divide the people and prevent the country from transforming, should be relegated to the background, henceforth.
“There is so much that unites us than divides us, and we must continue to build on our positives as a people”, the Minister of Energy emphasized, attracting applause.
He said the “theme for the festival ‘Let us unite and build Akwamuman’, is was a clear testament of the value placed on unity and a collective sense of purpose through a shared bond of history.
“Without unity, there will be no peace. Without peace, there will be no progress. I commend you for selecting this theme and I am confident that it will reflect all that you do as you seek to build a united, peaceful and prosperous Akwamuman”.
Akwamuman, Napo said “has a proud history, with men like Nana Ansa Saskraku and Asomaning among others, contributing immensely to establishing Akwamuman as a force to reckon with centuries ago”.
He said “That collective pride that you no doubt share as a people, must be the catalyst of your determination to come together and build Akwamuman in every aspect”.
Napo also stressed the need “to reach out each other to build together a healthy, prosperous and peaceful Ghana ready and able to address the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century”.
He also urged traditional leaders to uphold festivals, indicating that “traditional festivals serve as a focal point for homecoming, bringing together citizens of the relevant traditional area”.
