THE IMMENSE popularity of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh in the Manhyia South Constituency, once again, came to bear on Monday afternoon.
The famous politician, nicknamed as ‘Napo’, virtually stole the show when President Nana Akufo-Addo stormed the Manhyia Palace, in the Manhyia South Constituency.
The President was at the palace to officially introduce the 47 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidates (PCs) in the region to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
President Akufo-Addo one-after-the-other, introduced all the NPP PCs in the 47 constituencies in the region to Otumfuo during the Asanteman Council Meeting.
But when it reached the turn of Napo, who is also the Minister of Education, the deafening noise that welcomed him, was exceptional.
The wild shouts were so deafening that most of the chiefs present at the meeting, including even Otumfuo, who was sitting in state, was seen nodding his head in appreciation.
Napo, who from his body language seemed elated, temporarily waved back to the crowd, who were chanting “Napo, Napo” before he took his seat on the dais.
President Akufo-Addo in his short address, told the gathering that the NPP currently holds 44 seats in the Ashanti Region “and we want to increase is to 47 this year”.
In this regard, he appealed to the electorates in the Ashanti Region to vote massively for him as their president and all the 47 NPP PCs, whom he described as intelligent people.
According to him, surely he would easily retain his seat as president on December 7 “and the NPP needs to control parliament to enable my government to work in peace”.
