Napo Sues Sammy Gyamfi
DR. MATTHEW Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Education, has ordered Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to retract a false story he made about him and also apologize accordingly.
A letter, written by Sarkodie Baffuor Awuah and Partners, lawyers of the minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, said Sammy Gyamfi has 48 hours to adhere to their demands, to avoid legal action.
According to them, Gyamfi’s public statement that Seidu Mba, one of the arrested suspects in connection with the kidnapping of two Canadian girls in Kumasi, is an errand boy of Dr. Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, is false and malicious.
Napo’s lawyers lamented that Sammy Gyamfi’s comments, made at a recent press conference, which was widely broadcasted and published by the traditional and modern media networks, has dented Napo’s positive image in public.
“The aforementioned false and malicious statement suggests that our client is a promoter and beneficiary of thuggery”.
The lawyers therefore have urged Sammy Gyamfi to do the right thing by quickly retracting the hoax statement and also apologize to the Minister; else their client would haul the beleaguered NDC official to court.
In a strongly-worded letter, the lawyers have also written to Kwame Zu, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, who also linked Seidu to Napo on Okay FM, to retract his false statement and apologize within 48 hours to prevent a sue.
Part of the two separate letters read “Notwithstanding your malice, our client is magnanimous enough to offer you an opportunity to make amends. Accordingly, we have our clients’ instructions to demand as follows.
“A retraction of the aforementioned false and malicious statement made at a press conference on Thursday, 13th June, 2019, and carried on several media platforms and outlets within 48 hours of receipt of this notice and in the manner the statement in issue was published.
“An unqualified apology to our client, in the manner the statement in issue was published, within 48 hours of receipt of this notice”, two separate letters written by Napo’s lawyers to Sammy Gyamfi and Kwame Zu, indicated.
It added “Please take notice and notice is hereby served that we have the firm instructions of our client to institute legal proceedings against you without recourse to you, should you fail to honour the aforementioned demands”.
