THE BURDEN on the French Line Market fire victims in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, has been lessened due to the intervention of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, the Manhyia South Member of Parliament.
On Saturday, Napo donated 100 bags of cement and 20 packs of iron sheets to the fire victims.
The presentation was meant to help the fire victims, who are mostly women, to get back other their feet on time.
Napo, who is also the Energy Minister, in his remarks, expressed sadness over the French Line fire outbreak.
According to him, he was aware that the unexpected fire had denied the victims of their source of livelihood.
Napo said he felt the pain that the fire victims were going through currently so he decided to donate to them.
“I hope the 100 bags of cement and 20 packs of irons sheets which I’m presenting through NADMO will help.
“The fire has caused disaster and denied you of your source of livelihood and I am saddened”, he indicated.
Napo also expressed concern over the poor structure of the market and called on the KMA to get the place fixed.
“Because the market is not properly structured, it prevented the fire firefighters from getting access to the fire.
“The KMA should therefore make sure that the market is properly arranged to avert disaster in future”, he stated.
Napo also said fire outbreaks in markets in Kumasi were becoming rampant so it should be addressed now.
He also warned the traders at the French Line Market to desist from illegal connections to prevent disaster.
Napo also stated that the French Line trader’s request to get connected to electricity would be considered.
