Young University graduates to be recruited as beneficiaries under government’s employment generation programme, ‘Nation Builders Corps’ initiative would receive about GH₵600 as gross monthly salary.
The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah who disclosed this when he appeared in parliament to answer questions said all the 100,000 graduates captured in the 2018 budget statement will work for ten months and on monthly basis each person will get about GH₵600 as gross salary.
“The GH₵600 is just the beginning and of course when we say graduates you will agree with me that there are so many categories of graduates. Yes, I only gave the average figure of GH₵600 but you can have some taking as high as GH₵1,000 depending on your entry level.
“In labour front such interventions are called scoot job transition so they are not permanent jobs to say but they are just a preparation towards permanent jobs” he explained in an interview.
The Minister hinted that the concept which is currently being worked on would be fully rolled out next year.
“We are still working on the concept so I am only giving you a broad outline, so if you take national service for instance, it is a school to work transition but it is one year. I wouldn’t want to say that this will is going to follow the same pattern but anything that will prepare you from school to the job market is not seen as a permanent kind of job.
But it is to just give you a breathing space whilst you either do your professional career course or you prepare yourself for the job market” the Minister stated.
