A former Deputy Minister of Communication in the Mahama administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has describe the 420,000 Cedis Filing Fee For NDC Presidential Aspirants as a good process for democracy.
According to the National Democratic Congress Statesman, the filing amount for the Presidential hopefuls has nothing to do high level of corruption as indicated by some session of the public.
At a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting last Thursday, the party agreed that nomination forms should sell at GH¢20,000 and presidential aspirants in the up-coming primary should also pay GH₵400,000 as a filing fee.
However, female candidates are expected to pay 50 per cent less [GH¢200,000] of the filing fee whilst there is an additional reduction for aspirants with physical disabilities [GH¢150,000].
Many including the campaign team of Professor Joshua Alabi has described the amount as “outrageous” and further called on the Council of Elders of the NDC to intervene.
However Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu reacting to the issue on Newsfile stated that the party needs to raise funds to organise its primaries and aspirants should have no issues coughing up the said amount.
”As far as one have decided to stand for the highest seat in our dear nation Ghana, any amount of money for payment should not be a hard stress.” – he said.
So far, 12 people including former president John Dramani Mahama have indicated their readiness to run for the flag bearer slot of the party in the presidential primaries scheduled for 19 January 2019.
