NDC Awaits Good News from Mahama – Kofi Adams
The National Organiser National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has said he and his fellow party members are eagerly awaiting Former President John Mahama’s decision on whether he will contest the party’s presidential ticket for 2020 elections.
Mr Adams who was commenting about the NDC’s future, said: “we will hope to hear very great and positive news that this country has been yearning for.”
Speaking to Citi News he said, “We are all, as party members, waiting for the day when he will make his intentions known to all of us and that is the day we are waiting for. If he has given indications that he will not disappoint the rank and file of the party, we will wait for that day and then we will hear him.”
In a Facebook post, Mr Mahama assured that he would not ignore calls for him to make his intentions towards the presidential elections, known soon.
“To you, the teeming supporters and sympathizers calling and requesting me to declare my intentions for the future, I wish to assure you today, which as a servant-leader, I have listened to your calls and reflected. I will not disappoint you even as we await the publication of the party’s guidelines for selecting a new leader,” Mr Mahama said.
The former President has said he has held off any announcement because the NDC’s reorganisation efforts were more pressing at the moment.
Four NDC stalwarts have already made known their readiness to lead the party in the 2020 polls.
They are the 2nd deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah; former La-Dadekotopon MP, Nii Amasah Namoale and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Professor Joshua Alabi.
But Mr Adams, among others, have said Mr Mahama remains the best candidate for the NDC for election 2020.
