NDC Cedi Runs Like Usain Bolt …Bawumia Jabs Mahama
“THE CEDI was running like Usain Bolt under the NDC”, were the exact words of Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in Kumasi yesterday.
Speaking during the Government’s Townhall Meeting and Results Fair, Dr. Bawumia said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government inherited a very weak Cedi currency.
According to him, the Cedi kept on depreciating faster under the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, noting that the rate of the depreciation was so frightening.
The Second Gentleman of the land said the way ex-Olympics 100 and 200 meters champion, Usian Bolt, used to run, could be likened to the way the Cedi kept falling.
Dr. Bawumia said nothing was working right for the country when Mr. Mahama and the NDC were in political office. He said that it was good that the NPP won the 2016 polls.
“The economy kept declining, high inflation, there was no power for industries, popularly known as ‘Dumsor’, which collapsed businesses and many problems”, he noted.
Dr. Bawumia said in the midst of the aforementioned challenges, unemployment rate in the country also continued rising as there was no hope for the youth.
According to him, the NPP government had to use tactical skills and expertise in order to stop the weak and falling Cedi within a short time to bring hope to the citizenry.
The Vice President said but for the NPP’s electoral victory in 2016, the NDC government under the guidance of Mr. Mahama, would have led the country into a ditch.
He said he is expecting the NDC to come out boldly to dispute his claims about how weak the Cedi was during the era of the NDC, daring them “to produce contrary evidence to dispute his claims”.
