NDC Guru Defends Kumasi Mayor
…Over Decongestion Exercise
FEW DAYS after having the back of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC), the Kumasi Mayor, Osei Asssibey Antwi, has again received the support of a top National Democratic Congress (NDC) member over the assembly’s decongestion policy.
Francis Dodovi, one of the most respected and influential NDC members in the Ashanti region, has lambasted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, who are calling for the head of Osei Assibey over the ongoing decongestion exercise.
According to him, Kumasi is currently choked because of the overwhelming presence of traders on the streets and pavements, stressing that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is totally right in embarking on such exercises to decongest the city.
“I was therefore surprised and sad when a certain NPP group came out to attack the mayor for taking a bold and laudable decision to restore Kumasi to its once Garden City status. Let me tell you, this so-called NPP group is a pack of nation-wreckers, who don’t wish Kumasi well.
“I am a proud NDC member but the so-called NPP group should know that when it comes to matters about the proper development of Kumasi, we (NPP and NDC) should put our political motivations aside and collectively work to enhance the growth of our dear city”, he said.
Speaking in an interview with THE PUBLISHER, Dodovi stated that there is no developed city in the world where traders sell their wares in the streets and on pavements, adding that the Kumasi Mayor has started a commendable exercise that needs the support of everybody.
“Even the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the owner of Kumasi, and his sub-chiefs are in support of the mayor’s decongestion exercise and this shows that, indeed, the mayor is on the right track. The so-called NPP group should therefore give us a break”, he noted.
Dodovi, who is gunning for the Ashanti Regional NDC Youth Organizer position, stated emphatically that people like him (Dodovi), who have the development of Kumasi at heart, would continually support Hon. Osei Assibey to help beautify the city.
