SOME MEMBERS of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had to run for cover last Saturday, after the Hawks, a vigilante group in the party, descended on them.
The commotion happened at the Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School (SHS) at Sekyere Kumawu, the venue of the Ashanti Regional NDC elections, which attracted hundreds of party members.
The election, which was supervised by the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, was going on smoothly until the Hawks disrupted it because they suspected that Joseph Yammin, their favourite, was being discriminated against.
Members of the group complained that some unseen hands in the party were scheming to ensure that Yammin lost the Chairmanship race, hence their violent action.
For several minutes, the election was halted as the Hawks, who carried offensive weapons, patrolled the election grounds until Asiedu Nketia, affectionately called ‘General Mosquito, intervened.
Yammin, it would be recalled, had, prior to the polls, complained that his opponents were playing the tribal card to campaign against him and create disaffection for him.
He lost the election at the end of the day.
