THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign for the December 7 elections has been hit by tragedy as seven members of the party have died through a gory road accident.
The sad incident, reportedly, happened at Frante on the Sekyeredumase-Aframso Highway, when former President John Mahama, was visiting the community for electoral campaign on Saturday.
The dead persons were identified as Yussif Alhassan, 25, Vampire Tayomi, 40, Kwabena Bolasson, 32, Isahaku Begpo, 43, Ibrahim Muhammed, 30, Suleman Dagomba, 43 and Yussif Fuseini, 46.
Surprisingly, it was the second time in 24 hours that some NDC members in the Ashanti Region that were following Mr. Mahama on his campaign tour in the Ashanti Region were involved in an accident.
The first accident happened on the outskirts of New Edubiase when a 207 bus, that was carrying some NDC supporters crashed with a bus, which was said to be heading to Cape Coast on Friday.
Even though the 207 bus got mangled totally, the Ashanti Regional NDC leadership have disclosed that no casualties were recorded. The party said all the members that were involved in the crash were safe.
In the second crash, the NDC members were said to be in a bus following the NDC leader to Ejura Sekyeredumase for a campaign programme when their bus god involved in a dangerous accident at Frante.
According to reports, six people, who were onboard the fully laden bus, died on the spot and another person, who sustained life threatening injuries, also lost his life in the hospital few hours later.
Mr. Mahama, who was said to be stunned by the crash, quickly rushed to the Sekyeredumase hospital to wish the about dozen injured persons well. He also promised to take care of their hospital bills.
According to reports, the NDC leader later on mustered courage to continue with his campaign tour, where he appealed to the electorates to vote massively for him to save the state from distress.
