The next government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will offer free legal services to all people in the Creative Arts industry including musicians and actors. Spokesperson on Art of the NDC’s “People’s Manifesto” Baba Abu Sadique has said.
According to him, the party is taking such steps because it has realized the ruling NPP has failed to protect the intellectual property of the people in the industry and feels they have also been sidelined for a very long time in the country.
“As we speak, there is a legal aid system at the Attorney General’s office but that aid is overstressed and apart from being overstressed, the focus is mainly on Gender Child and Human right issues”, Mr. Abu Sadique told Halifax Ansah-Addo in an interview on Okay FM, September 14, 2020.
He noted that today many players in the creative industry normally go into a contract they do not understand and in the end get cheated just because they could not get a legal practitioner to explain whatever agreement they appended their signature to and assured his party will end such mistakes.
“This legal aid system would be available for all people in the industry who may not have the ability to hire a lawyer to assist them”, Mr. Abu Sadique assured in his interview which was also attended by popular Highlife musician Rex Omar.
The two were appointed by the party to speak on issues relating to the promises made in relation to Creative Arts.
Rex Omar, a staunch party faithful, is the Chairman of GHAMRO while Baba Sadiq is the CEO of the 3Music Awards.
