The Municipal Chief Executive of Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA), Boye Laryea is accusing some elements of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of sabotaging the President’s development agenda in the Municipality
He insists the writings on drawings at the dimples overhead on the George Walker Bush Highway in Accra are calculated attempts by the party to discredit the government.
The Assembly last week woke up to writings on it drawings at the dimples overhaed near the Achimota Forest , throwing ONMA’s plans of beautifying the area into disarray.
The move is part of efforts to help push the agenda of environmental conservation and to portray the vision of promoting climate change agenda especially in that forest environment.
Some of the instructions on the murals includes “Northerners are Ghanaians”, “No Ethnic Cleansing,” Akufo-Addo Agorkoli,” and “Ewes are Ghanaians”.
However, speaking in an interview with the paper in Accra on Friday, Mr. Laryea was sure the NDC is responsible for the act.
“If you look at the writings on the walls, you will clearly see that this is a grand style by NDC to derail the president’s vision of making Accra become one of the beautiful cities in Africa.”
The ONMA MCE continued: “I don’t want to mince words; this is NDC grand style agenda to make sure that the President’s vision will not come to fruition”.
He explained that although there are some components and contributions from other benevolent institutions like the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), the project is costing the Assembly, adding that “the artist is also helping us; he is just taking some moderate to do the work for us.”
Touching on efforts to reverse the trend, Mr. Laryea disclosed that the only option available to the Assembly is to engage the security services for night patrols which he would lead himself effective Friday August 14, 2020.
Beyond, the night vigil, he stated that ONMA is also considering arresting and prosecution of culprits engaging in that acts, if caught indicating that there’s no ambiguity about that.
