NDC Shooting: Mahama Condemns Incident, Calls for Arrest of Gunman
Former President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the shooting incident at the Ashanti regional office of the National Democratic Congress on Monday, 18 February 2019, which led to the death of one person.
Mr Mahama described the attack as “cowardly” and called on the police to swiftly “investigate the incident, apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.”
One person died leaving several others injured when chaos erupted amidst gunshots during a meeting which was being chaired by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
The Ashanti regional Police Command has declared four persons alleged to be members of pro-NDC vigilante group “The Hawks” wanted over the shooting incident.
Mahama in a Facebook post said: “I have just been briefed about a shooting incident that occurred in front of the Ashanti Regional Office of the NDC leading to the death of one person and injury to another.”
“I strongly condemn this incident. It is clearly a criminal act, and I call on the police and relevant security agencies to investigate, immediately apprehend the culprits and subject them to the full rigours of the law,” the NDC flagbearer hopeful added.
