NDC Shooting: Police Search Yamoah Ponkoh’s House

NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC Congress (NDC) strongman, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh’s house was searched on Tuesday in connection with Monday’s fatal shooting that rocked the Regional Headquarters of the opposition party.
Armed policemen stormed the Adako Jarchie plush-looking residence of the NDC man and searched the place.There were reports that Yamoah Ponkoh was stockpiling weapons in his house, hence the thorough search.
The police, however, did not find any gun or ammunition in the house after the search, which lasted for an hour. Wasiu, a member of the NDC Taskforce, was hit with six bullets, which resulted in his instant death.
Four people, who belong to the Hawks, another NDC vigilante group, have been arrested in connection with the death.
Yamoah Ponkoh Arrested 
Meanwhile, Yamoah Ponkoh was, reportedly, arrested by the police in connection with Wasiu’s death on Tuesday.
According to reports, the police believed that Yamoah Ponkoh can assist in investigations, hence his arrest.

Mr Ponkoh, who confirmed his invitation said the police, in two pickups, stormed his house on Tuesday, 19 February 2019, with arms and conducted a search and subsequently invited him.

He said they found nothing and later took his statement. He revealed that former Deputy Minister of the Ashanti Region, Joseph Yammin, has also been invited by the police over the same incident.

Yamoah Ponkoh Beaten
In a related development, Yamoah Ponkoh was allegedly beaten to the pulp in front of the NDC office on Monday morning.
Some members of the NDC Taskforce, reportedly, pummeled Yamoah Ponkoh like a common criminal in public.
The NDC Taskforce decided to beat Yamoah Ponkoh because they see him as a staunch supporter of the Hawks, their rival group.

Background

On Monday, a meeting at the Ashanti regional office of the NDC turned bloody when some unidentified men suspected to be members of the Hawks, a pro NDCvigilante group, opened fire on members of the Regional Task Force of the party.

One person who has been identified as Wassis Idris, a 30-year-old scrap dealer and a member of the task force, was shot and killed while another one, Abdul Rahman, received gunshot wounds.

After the shooting, the members fled using motorbikes.
