Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has defended her recent comment about the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary candidate John Dumelo saying Parliament is not for actors.
The Minister, whilst campaigning for NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Lydia Alhassan last Friday, November 27, 2020, at Ayawaso West Wuogon, threw shades at John Dumelo claiming that Parliament was serious business and not for actors.
She told the constituents that they will be stuck watching movies if they do not vote for the NPP.
Her comments however did not sit well with a lot of industry personalities especially those in the movie industry asking for an apology.
According to many industry persons, her comments will fuel the perception that the Creative Art industry is not one to be taken seriously.
However in a statement, the lawmaker said her comment has been taken out of context by some political opportunists.
According to her, the comment she made was targeted at actor John Dumelo contrary to the suggestions it sought to cast a slur on people in the arts.
