NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, is backing Bernard Antwi Boasiako, to retain his position as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, the largest opposition political party, the
NDCs chance of winning more parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region and eventually winning the presidential elections, would become easier with Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi’ as the NPP chairman.
Without mincing words, the Asawase NDC Lawmaker stated emphatically that Wontumi is the weakest among the five contestants that are vying for the top NPP position, therefore he wants Wontumi to retain his position to enhance the NDCs electoral fortunes.
The Asawase NDC MP labeled Wontumi as a talkative, who only talks much with little or virtually no results in the end, stressing that it was his greatest wish that the NPP delegates would retain Wontumi as their regional chairman, ahead of the 2024 crucial elections.
“About the NPPs Ashanti Regional elections, my only wish is that they would vote and retain Chairman Wontumi as their chairman because with him at the helm of affairs, definitely it will go a long way to boost the chances of the NDC in the 2024 national elections.
“Chairman Wontumi talks without any action, if you remember, prior to the 2020 elections, he was virtually everywhere, especially in the media, making wild promises to win all the 47 parliamentary seats in the region, including my own Asawase Constituency seat.
“At the end of the day, not only did he fail woefully to win all the 47 parliamentary seats, he (Wontumi) and the NPP also ended up losing some seats. With this as a test case, I will always support Wontumi to lead the NPP in the Ashanti Region because it will benefit the NDC”.
Mohammed Muntaka, who was speaking on radio in Kumasi, sounding very confident, stated categorically that if Wontumi is maintained as the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, definitely it would automatically help the NDC to snatch more NPP seats in the region.
Wontumi, it would be recalled, in 2020, boldly predicted that he would lead the ruling NPP to win all the 47 parliamentary seats in the party’s stronghold of the Ashanti Region during the 2020 elections. He then said he was a strategist and results-oriented leader.
Interestingly, the NPP ended up winning 42 parliamentary seats in the region, with four seats going the way of the NDC and an independent candidate winning the Fomena seat.
The outspoken NPP guru, prior to the 2020 polls, even stated emphatically that if he fail to win all the 47 seats in the region for his party, he would resign from his position, a promise he has since failed fulfill.
