There was mayhem at the Ashanti Regional office of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Amakom yesterday as party executives fell over one another to take cover from the burning anger of some sympathisers of the disqualified aspirant in the Asawase constituency primaries.
The party executives left their brevity at home when they succumbed to pressure as the irate youth chased them out from the party office.
The peeved NDC members, drawn from the Asawase Constituency had vowed to beat up any party official on sight following their decisions to disqualify Masawudu Mubarick from the Asawase NDC race.
According to them, Masawudu Mubarick, a staunch NDC member at Asawase, qualifies to contest for the Asawase NDC seat but the party leadership have unjustifiably disqualified him from the upcoming elections.
The incumbent Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak was on Tuesday, September 3, declared to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the party unopposed.
This follows the acceptance of a report by the Doe Adjaho Committee which was constituted to look into petitions surrounding the selection of parliamentary candidates.
The NDC held parliamentary primaries nationwide but the elections were put on hold in five constituencies including Asawase.
Elections were later held in four of the constituencies leaving Asawase where some NDC members had filed a petition to the National Executive Council of the party.
But the pro-Mubarick Asawase NDC members, including party delegates, who stormed the party office at Amakom, targeted to mercilessly beat the regional executives of the party, who they have accused of being biased.
Interestingly, the party NDC regional executives, who had gotten wind of the violent intentions of the aggrieved NDC members, quickly fled through any available route in order to escape being manhandled.
The angry NDC members, issuing threats, amidst wearing red arm bands used huge padlocks to lock all the entrances that lead to the building.
They had bragged that the party solely belongs to them.
As if locking the party’s office was not enough, the pro-Mubarick NDC members also started to burn lorry tyres in the premises to press home their demand to give their preferred candidate the chance the contest the election.
The Asawase NDC members vowed that the party’s office would remained close until Masawudu Mubarick was allowed to contest in the polls.
According to them, they would continually storm the party’s regional office at Amankom and attack any party official that would dare muster the courage to beak the big padlocks and enter the office to work.
They also said the NDC at Asawase and Ashanti Region in general, would never know peace, until Masawudu Mubarick, who they claimed have sacrificed for the NDC, was served with justice.
The papers sources however claims that the party’s position to disqualify Masawudu Mubarick is a well thought out plan to prevent anyone from contesting the incumbent member Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka,
