NDC’s claim of vote rigging by Akufo-Addo’s gov’t ridiculous – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disregarded claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) saying government seeks to rig the 2020 general elections to its favour.

At a press conference, the Deputy National Campaign Manager of the NPP, Mustapha Hamid, said the NDC’s claim is borne out of fear of defeat in the general elections.

The NDC, at a press conference on Monday, December 7, 2020, played videos of printed ballots purportedly meant to be used to stuff ballot boxes.

It said the instances of alleged electoral malfeasance have taken place in the Greater Accra, Eastern, Central and Ashanti regions.

Mr. Hamid, however, described these claims as delusional.

“We all have evidence at the polling station. People are flagging infractions. The media is all over the place. International observers are all over the place. Citizen vigilantes are all over the place.

“Everybody is vigilant and watching. Have you heard infractions anywhere about ballot boxes stuffing? There are no [stuffed] ballot boxes. The NDC is either delusional or seeking to save the face of the imminent defeat that faces them.”

The NDC claimed there had been instances where some persons were sighted with ballot papers thumb-printed in favour of the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo.

Addressing the media, the Director of Elections for the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, said the EC must answer to the citizenry for such anomalies.
