The Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has said, government is committed to providing adequate resources concerning the National Ambulance Service (NAS) to improve on its emergency response capabilities as well as help save lives.
Speaking at the passing out ceremony at Nkenkasu last Saturday, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, said the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives had successfully completed procurement processes for the 307 new ambulances.
“Ninety-six of the vehicles have arrived in the country,” he said, adding that 48 had already been cleared by the supplier.
He said the remaining 48 were in the process of being cleared, and that the rest were expected in the country by the end of the year.
Ambulances being digitized
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had earlier indicated that, management systems of the ambulances that will be distributed across the constituencies in Ghana will be tracked by a digital address system.
According to him, by the end of next month, when ambulance numbers are called in times of distress, the problem of having to identify locations would be a thing of the past.
“We are making sure that we have an ambulance management system to manage these ambulances. So every ambulance is going to be uniquely tracked, fitted with tablets and with all the digital address systems. So, by the end of next month, when you dial the 112 number, the police ambulance or fire service will know exactly the digital address from which that call is coming,” he said.
