The Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah says the initiative for students of Colleges of Education in Ghana to be awarded degrees will be rolled out with new entrants of the Colleges.
Government has said all 43 Public Colleges of Education in the country will be turned into satellite campuses of public universities.
Colleges of Education, he stressed, will therefore be degree awarding Institutions just like the public universities.
The colleges will be shared among the public universities which offer education programmes.
The idea ,he said, is to ensure that all teachers in Ghana are trained as graduates.
The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah explained in an interview with Starr News that the decision to turn all colleges of Education into satellite campuses of universities is part of recommendation of a special committee set up to look at special areas in the tertiary education sector.
He said the colleges will still remain where they are yet part of the super structure of a public University.
He noted the relevant stakeholders are working out the necessary arrangements to ensure a successful implementation of the initiative.
Asked whether the entry requirements of the Colleges of Education will change or be maintained with the new arrangements, Prof. Kwesi Yankah said such modalities are being worked on and would be discussed later.
