Ghanaian musician and CEO of asumde.com, Charles Nelson, popularly known as Chief Charles has described Nigerian music fans as “villagers”.
His comment came as a result of how the Nigerian audience who were contemporary at the launch of Menzgold and Zylofon Nigerian reacted towards Ghanaian artistes during their performance on stage.
“Now I’m going to make a statement; I’m sure it will set me across my Nigeria brothers, you can say, I’m heading for a collusion, now I see that, the Nigeria audience whether at home or abroad behave like villagers, in the sense that if they don’t know you, they just stir at you as if you don’t exist” – he said whiles contributing to a studio discussion on Zylofon FM today August 27.
According to Chief Charles, the atmosphere created by the western audience to artistes even if they don’t know them is overwhelming and that augers them.
“If you ever attended an international music festival or concert abroad, even if they don’t know your songs or haven’t seen you before, anything you asked them to do, they will do it, because they understand performance dynamics, they know that, as a performer applaud is your food, that’s what urges you to bring the best out of you” – he added.
He however stated that, music is a universal language that, even if you not under the diction you can get something in to move you. He also added that, cheer leaders have been paid in the Menzgold and Zylofon Media case to cheer up every artistes billed to perform, therefore the ought not to be selective.
To Mr Nelson, music goes beyond rivalry and Nigerians should have appreciated the work of Zylofon Media, instead of the ill attitude. “The reception they gave us is not reciprocal to the amount of money we have invested there”.
He also mentioned that, though Nigerian artistes have received wide acceptance in Ghana, it is not so in Nigeria to Ghanaian artistes.
“We hail their artistes when they come to Ghana but they can’t do same for us, which is sad”, he added.
