The National Lottery Authority (NLA)may soon clinch a transformative partnership with Scientific Games to further position it as a competitive global player in the lottery industry following fruitful deliberations between its Director-General, Mr. Samuel Awuku, and Scientific Games’ CEO, Mr. Patrick McHugh.
Established in 1973, Scientific Games prides itself on being an industry pioneer in data analytics, retail solutions, and iLottery. Scientific Games is also famed as a global leader in retail and digital products, technology, and services that drive profits for government-sponsored lottery and sports betting programs.
Scientific Games currently operates on six continents and seeks to make inroads on leaving its footprints on the African continent; thus, the CEO of Scientific Games, Mr. Patrick McHugh, invited the Director-General of NLA, Mr. Samuel Awuku, to its head office in Atlanta,Georgia to discuss the prospects of partnering with the NLA to develop the scratch lottery industry, introduce instant games, and raffle ticketsonto the Ghanaian market.
Mr. McHugh, who was joined by the Vice President of Strategy and Planning, Mr. Nicholas Spahr, informed Mr. Awuku of their desire to have a long-lasting relationship with the NLA, ensuring adherence to responsible gaming and developingtrusted global brands. Scientific Games also improves education, diversity, and mental health through numerous social advocacy and outreach efforts.
Mr. Samuel Awuku expressed the NLA’s readiness to assist Scientific Games in introducing innovative and exciting new games which will appeal to its patrons,particularly scratch cardsand raffle tickets, which are currently absent from the Authority’s portfolio.
The Director-General of NLA alsourged the team to consider using Ghana as a hub for developing their instant games and setting up a regional office, which would facilitate the movement of logistics.
Mr. Awuku was given a comprehensive tour of Scientific Games’ production lines and centres. This included visiting the facilities where an impressive 25 billion tickets are printed annually, and a minimum of 10 million packs of tickets are printed monthly.
Scientific Games also develops 2,000 games annually and owns 70% of the global market for instant games and scratch lottery. The World Lottery Association (WLA) has duly acknowledged it as the premier company in this area.
The Director-General, Mr. Awuku, says he is excited about this partnership and looks forward to the NLA attracting more foreign partners to the Authority.
