No Ghanaian Child Will Be Left Out of Free SHS – Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo has assured that government will ensure every Ghanaian child will be given access to a minimum of quality secondary school education.
According to him, 90,000 more children had enrolled into Senior High School (SHS) than the amount that had enrolled the previous year due to the policy.
“This year, the figure will double to one hundred and eighty thousand, and to take care of this additional population, we are going to recruit over eight thousand more teachers,” the President added.
“We have doubled the Capitation Grant. We have expanded the School Feeding Programme. We need an educated workforce to build 21st century Ghanaian prosperity’,” the President said speaking at the NPP’s Delegate Conference on July 7.
Nana Akufo-Addo had previously said that his government will extend its flagship Free Senior High School policy to second year students beginning next academic year.
The free SHS programme which was rolled out in September 2017 has been fraught with some challenges.
The government has however given the assurance that the programme will be sustained despite the challenges.
