NO RESHUFFLE… All Ministers Stay At Post
New information that reached THE PUBLISHER from the corridors of power Thursday night do not support speculations of a soon-to-be announced ministerial reshuffle, although the viral speculations have reached important ears at the Presidency.
Eavesdropping whippers of big shots in government suggests that the Presidency is content with the performance of the Cabinet Minister so far and has expressed confidence that the Ministers would accelerate their performance in this new year as most of them spent the previous year settling into their new positions and taking charge of the cumbersome challenges.
“The names that are being thrown out there are not coming from the President’s office. There are times we hear these names and we wonder who the papers are talking to. It is not a very healthy practice as it has the tendency to create an unnecessary feeling of insecurity among appointees.
“At the recent media encounter with the President, His Excellency was full of complimentary words of praise for some of the ministers that are speculated to be on a sack-list he is about to announce. Why would he appoint officers and then kick them out within 12 months”, our deep throat source told the paper.
He explained further that anytime the President has doubts over the actions or inactions of any of his ministers, the President does not hesitate to call the persona and ask for a through briefing to clear such doubts.
“The President is a very discreet person that would not be whispering stuff behind his ministers and telling people who he wants to sack and who he does not want to sack. It could be that there is an agenda behind the speculations. There are several ways of lobbying and in politics, people have all sorts of reasons for putting out information”, the source added.
Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation, Anthony Osei Akoto, has also stated that it would be politically incorrect for Nana Akufo-Addo to reshuffle his ministers at this time.
He argued that one year is too short for the presidency and Ghanaians in general, to make proper assessment of the ministers, who are currently serving under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
In this regard, Hon. Osei Akoto, who is also the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo/Pankrono in Kumasi, has suggested that
“In my personal opinion, I think it is not appropriate for the president to reshuffle his ministers and appointees after just one year in political office”, the Tafo/Pankrono MP said on radio in Kumasi.
He added “Most of the ministers were new to their ministries so they have used the first year to study the terrain and they are now abreast with the situation on the ground so they can work to perfection this year”.
Akoto Osei, the Tafo/Pankrono MP, sounding confident, said the right foundation had been laid for a speedy growth of the economy, this year, saying that Ghanaians would experience massive growth soon.
