NO to Demonstration – NAM1 tells Kasoa Youth
The CEO of Menzgold Nana Appiah Mensah is pleading with the youth of Kasoa to ‘desist’ from their planned demonstrations against the Bank of Ghana and EOCO after his gold trading company came under the scrutiny of these two bodies.
The youth in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, also known as Kasoa, were planning to take to the streets of Accra on Friday over what they call the ‘the unfair and illegal targeting’ of the burgeoning company set up by the indigene of their town.
Nana Appiah, popularly known as NAM 1, enjoys wide support among the people of Kasoa which has seen the youth of the town apply for a permit to allow them to demonstrate against the two government agencies.
This comes on the heels of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO)’s decision to initiate investigations into operations of gold purchasing firm.
EOCO is said to have invited Chief Executive of, Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah, following concerns by the Bank of Ghana over the operations of the company.
The EOCO move came after the Bank of Ghana issued fresh caution to the public against dealing with Menzgold, which the central bank claim is not licensed to take deposits – a claim totally rejected by the firm as false accusation.
The move by the two bodies sparked the youth of Kasoa into action with their spontaneous plans to demonstrate against the government agencies for their actions against the company belonging to the philanthropist.
However Nana Appiah is begging the youth of Kasoa to abstain from carrying out their actions insisting dealing with the relevant authorities is the right approach.
“My attention has been drawn to a pending demonstration up in the Awutu Senya East Municipality in solidarity of Menzgold ,
“I humbly urge all to desist. We are employing a diplomatic resolution under the tenet of rule of law in the interest of our beloved republic, #GhanaShallProsper ” – Nana Appiah wrote on Twitter on Thursday.
Nana Appiah’s caution comes just few days after the action of the youth in Kasoa forced him to denounce their decision to call him to stand for the MP for the area.
A delegation was put together by the youth movement to convince the Menzgold boss to contest the next parliamentary elections.
Even though Nana Appiah Mensah has not declared his intention to contest for parliamentary seat, his social intervention programmes in Kasoa appeared to have forced the youth to turn to him for help but he rejected the offer insisting he is keen on offering one million jobs to the people of Ghana.
NAM Mission initiative to create jobs for the youth of Kasoa has made the business mogul the main target of the youth as their representative in parliament.
Apart from providing an official vehicle for the Chief of Kasoa, the Zylofon boss is constructing the chief’s palace for the area which will serve as the public meeting place for all the divisional chiefs of the area.
