No Witness for AG in Afoko Murder Trial

There were no witnesses for the Attorney-General in the murder trial of Gregory Afoko, the younger brother of suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) – Paul Afoko yesterday.

Matthew Amposah, a Chief State Attorney told the Accra Criminal High Court that the Attorney-General’s witnesses expected in court are police officers part of the ongoing Operation Vanguard.

He stated that the said police officers are meeting their supervisors for assignments and as such were unable to come to court.

The court presided over by Justice L. L. Mensah has adjourned the case until April 24.

Lawyers for Gregory Afoko have over the weeks been questioning the sixth witness in the case, mounting a spirited defense over a charge of murder.

Gregory, 52, is in the dock over the alleged murder of Adams Mahama, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP.

The prosecution intends to call 13 witnesses in the trial.

Gegory has been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and murder of Adams Mahama in May 2015.

Meanwhile he has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Adams Mahama died of extensive acid burns and shock lungs (acute respiratory distress syndrome), an autopsy report has indicated.
