Veteran Nollywood actor and esteemed academic, Dr. Columbus Irosanga, has died.
Actress Hilda Dokubo announced his passing on her Instagram page on Thursday 6th February, 2025.
Expressing her grief, she wrote, “Heaven can’t be running short of angels that it’s calling home the few we have here like this! This loss weighs heavily on Uniport, Rivers State, and Nollywood.” She added, “Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the Lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu.”
Born and raised in Okrika, Rivers State, Dr. Irosanga gained widespread recognition for his compelling portrayals of chief priests in Nollywood films. His most memorable role as “Igbudu” in the 2001 blockbuster Isakaba solidified his legacy in the industry.
His remarkable performances earned him several prestigious awards, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Best Actor in a Drama at the City People Entertainment Awards, Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Best of Nollywood Awards.
Beyond acting, Dr. Irosanga shaped the next generation of performers as a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt.
He is survived by his wife and children. While his family has not disclosed the cause of death, his passing marks a significant loss to Nigeria’s academic and entertainment communities.
