Norlympics Taekwondo Competition Kicks Off Today
All is set for the 6th edition of the Norlympics Taekowndo Children Open Championship which takes off today, Friday, October 27, at the Hathramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The two-day competition, aimed at identifying talents and improving their skills in the discipline, is opened to children between the ages of 5-13.
In all, about 700 school children from 18 schools, including Rising Sun Montessori, St. Barnabas and Jesus and Mary Int. Schools are expected to take part in the championship.
The President of the Norlympics, Mr. Norbert Amefu, in an interview with the GNA Sports said, the competition was designed to get the best fighters to represent Ghana at the upcoming World Championship in Korea in December.
Amefu, who doubles as the Greater Accra Taekwondo Chairman, added that, the competition would help select the best to join the national team.
According to him, medals, certificates and cash prizes would be awarded to the winners of the various categories, and that, the best fighter in both the female and male category would go home with a bicycle or a mini fridge for their performance.
