Not Accra Awards! VGMA must cover all regions – Edem
Hiplife artiste Edem has asked the organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) to expand the scope of the laurels to cover artistes across the length and breadth of the country and not just those based in Accra.
According to Edem, it is unfair for the organisers to focus on Accra-based artistes.
Speaking on the Class Drive on Class91.3FM, Edem said: “Kofi Kinaata might be big in Takoradi and that will be his stronghold and his base, Strongman has a huge fan base in Kumasi than some artistes in Accra, but if you want to use Accra as the predominant space then you are not being fair to Strongman, Fancy Gadam, Macasio or Wiyaala. It’s Ghana Music Awards so we have to look at it historically.”
“They said the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is 20 years and they said it is Ghana Music Awards, so, I think that after 20 years, we should get to a level where we embrace all demographics,” the award-winning artiste stated.
Meanwhile the Ashanti Regional Capital, Kumasi over the weekend hosted the 2019 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Nominees Party.
The Concert which attracted thousands of people saw Tema rapper, Yaa Pono; Oseikrom King, Flow King Stone ,Kwaku Gyasi, Kumawood actor Lilwin, Hiplife/Afrobeats duo Dopenation,Highlife Songstress Adina, Afrobeats Singer Wendy Shay, Gospel Songstress Obaapa Christy and many others mounting stage to perform.
The main awards for the VGMA has been scheduled for May 18 but the Organizers, Charterhouse are yet to state the venue for the event, which is in its 20th year.
