Some are born great. Some achieve greatness and others have greatness thrust upon them.
On the 28th of October 1992 a great woman was born into the Zongo Community (Zongo settlements are areas in West African towns populated mostly by settlers from Northern Sahel areas especially from Northern Nigeria. A common feature of the Zongo community is their predominant use of Hausa language as their lingua franca).
A moment filled with so much joy and excitement as my parent have been battling with child bearing for years. This imminently caused their separation due to community and family pressure.
Growing up in Zongo, I was exposed with quiet a number of challenges but that did not stop me from dreaming big and working towards achieving my goals. Fortunately for me, my parent understood girl-child education and it importance to the Muslim community and the world at large.
In 2017, I graduated from the Regent University of Science and Technology were I studied Banking and finance with the believe of working in a financial institution someday. Low and behold, I was initiated into the family business by my parent. A decision I’m always grateful for. Today, I own 5 startup companies in Ghana. I am on a mission of becoming one of Africa’s successful young entrepreneurs, changing lives, creating jobs, empowering women and helping to elevate poverty in Africa.
In 2020, the news of global pandemic was predominant, which got most people devastated. For me this was a time to strategize and make the most out of the global pandemic. After a thorough planning, I came up with an idea to maximize my profit during the Covid-19 lockdown in Accra, Ghana. I went into the market to negotiate with some local skincare suppliers who were not social media friendly to work with them during the lockdown, some agreed, others made me pay a deposit to secure their products. Indeed nothing great comes easy. Social media has been so helpful to my online startup businesses. Being a social media strategist, I made a video of myself informing my followers about the fact that during the lockdown my companies which is the skincare company, logistics company, bedding company will be operating to help other people who will need our services and to those who wanted to start an online business with zero money just by drop shipping our products could also come on board. The response was great, my video went viral.
The beginning of great things.
The president of the republic of Ghana announced the date for a partial locked down. A day into lockdown, I had started receiving orders from all part of the country. My orders kept increasing and this got my family involved in the process.
Whatever you want to do with determination, resilience, hard work and commitment, it can be achieved. These key words got me and my crew to stay motivated. This helped me to create job opportunity to over 150 women which helped sustain them and their families during the lockdown.
After lockdown, I made a GHC100,000, USD18000 as profit. This was beyond my expectation but it was a reality. Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can attract.
This inspired me to share my story and write a book out of it to help other young entrepreneurs in Africa to use my blue prints to earn 6 figures. Covid-19 has thought me to be selfless and generous.
This is to greatness. This is to my fellow youth in the Zongo community “Humble origins are not hindrances to success but an inspiration to overcome adversity and obtain seemingly impossible goals. I am the girl from Zongo. I am a proud Zongopreneur.
Thank you.
